How are you involved in education?

  • My passion for technology and teaching has led me into a career where I have the opportunity to support teachers and their instruction with awesome tech tools. I am a former middle and high school science teacher that values positive student-teacher relationships far more than test scores. My goal/wish is for all teachers to love teaching so all students love learning!

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • Flexible yet structured. I believe when we have the right tools and resources the space should fit each and every learners style. This school or classroom would allow teachers to facilitate and push students to delve deeper into topics or concepts and much less on the students’ ability to regurgitate facts.

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?

  • Formative Assessment -why I love data but only if it’s used..

  • I work with pre-service teachers and Higher Ed faculty and instructors in integrating technology into courses and K12 classrooms.

How are you involved in education?

  • I serve as a district curriculum coordinator for preK-12 Social Studies and 9-12 Business Education teachers/courses. I work with teachers to support their needs in enhancing the educational experiences for our district’s students.Additionally, I serve as Vice President of OK Council for the Social Studies as well as a member of each the Holocaust Education Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Oklahoma City and the Education Committee of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • Focused & FlexibleThe ideal classroom should be arranged and set up to give a clear focus on the skills & content learning which are appropriate for the specific course(s) being taught, yet should also allow the flexibility of quick rearrangement (if needed) to meet the needs of specific activities. My image would of this would be individual student desks or thin rectangular tables arranged in a group collaboration pod for @4 students per pod that could also be easily split up for focused individualized activities (i.e. a test) or moved out of the way entirely for whole class activities that engage students actively with one another.

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?

  • Integration of literacy and/or technology skills across the curriculum as a way to support content based learning.

  • Lots of sharing of ideas, creative expression, and laughter. Lots of laughter. I like technology and also old school craft supplies. 🙂

  • Ideally, my classroom would be an environment where students want to learn what I teach. A place where they can learn from me and each other.

EdCampOKC 2015 TShirts Available for Online Ordering

Our official EdCampOKC 2015 t-shirts are now available for online ordering via MENT Apparel! The design this year was inspired by an Oklahoma City Public Schools student (Q. Parrish) attending Classen School of Advanced Studies. T-shirts must be ordered online in advance and will be available for pickup at EdCampOKC on Saturday, February 28th. Remember if you haven’t registered yet via EventBrite please do ASAP, we might actually max out this year’s event at 400 participants! As of 5 pm on Sunday February 8th we have 316 registered! We hope everyone attending EdCampOKC will share their learning on Twitter using the hashtag #edcampOKC, which is also featured on the shirt. This is the design for this year’s shirt:

  • I was a high school teacher for 18.5 years and have just recently stepped into a full time student role at Oklahoma State University as a PhD student. I am also teaching some courses at OSU as well.

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • Its a classroom with computers, smartboard, apple tv, glass walls, ipads, and chromebooks. Its a creative space where learning is powerful and FUN and connected.

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • No textbooks, no tests, no grades! It would be a classroom of inquiry, designing, building, creating, and anything else the students could think of!

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?

  • Meet, Greet, and Share with #oksci teachers! With the new standards out, it would be great if we could meet face to face and share how/what everyone is doing to transition and how it is progressing. If nothing else, just a come and go to meet!
