How are you involved in education?
- I eat, sleep (when I do get sleep), and breathe education. I cannot go anywhere or do anything without lesson planning. I am a vocal advocate for equity and equality in education. I also blog regularly about lessons and educational issues.
What does your ideal school or classroom look like?
- Tables and chairs of some kind that I can easily/freely move around. Brightly colored walls with different art works or interesting student projects. Books everywhere for students to read and enjoy. Space to move around. Structure for students who want it. Freedom for those who want it. I’m okay with it looking like a classroom sans the “institutional” or prison look.

- I have been a 5th grade teacher for 14 years, mostly self-contained. What does your ideal school or classroom look like?
- My ideal classroom is one where students are engaged in a variety of activities. I encourage students to utilize technology in the classroom and at home. My students are engaged in literacy in every core subject. I mix instruction methods up to keep my students active and involved.

- How to utilize GAFE as a tool not just storage.

- My ideal classroom is busy (this makes me laugh) I want to see smiles, laughter, focus, and excitement. I want students to have access to anything they can imagine and be able to ask and share everything on their minds!

How are you involved in education?
- This year I teach the English Writing “side” of the English Language Arts block at Central Middle School in Bartlesville.I helped implement during-the-school day clubs (we rolled that out this year) for every student, sixth-eighth grade.
I’m assistant director for our school play.
I have a student teacher this semester.
I follow and participate in “The Twitters” – #oklaed and #txed quite a bit.
What does your ideal school or classroom look like?
- My ideal sixth grade classroom would look more like the traditional elementary school classroom. I’d have the same one or two groups of students for half of the day or, better yet, the entire day. I dream of incorporating all sorts of writing (haiku, reflection pieces, tweeting, blogging – you name it) into the instruction of math, science, and social studies.P.E., Art, and Music would happen every day – even if it looked more like recess, some creative photography, and plastic recorders (remember those?!) in the classroom.
We’d be a connected classroom with a balance of technology and old school, hands on materials.
While we’re in the land of the ideal, massage therapy chairs (those super cool high dollar ones) for teachers would be FANTASTIC. We could share – no need for one per teacher per classroom – I’d be okay with having a few in the teacher’s lounge.
If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?
- Gradual Release of Responsibility – for student teachers. What does that look like? How do mentor teachers best facilitate? How do we work within the current system of teacher preparation to best prepare soon to be teachers for the classroom?Finding the balance between teacher led and student driven instruction.
Teaching 21st century skills on the days you don’t have access to 21st century tools.

- I am a inquiry seeker, resource builder, product creator, and dream sharer! I do all of this as the school librarian at Norman High, president of the Oklahoma Library Association, and instructor at the University of Central Oklahoma.

- I like tables, and comfy chairs, and sunshine, and technology. I shoot for learning commons more than classroom.

- My ideal classroom is teacher led, but student driven! If I was lucky enough to go back to the classroom, I would want to teach a pure innovation class modeled after the book by Don Wettrick, Pure Genius.

- I manage The Div, a nonprofit organization designed to help kids learn, embrace and excel in technology and computer science. We’re currently building a calendar of hands-on educational camps to take place outside of regular school hours.
What does your ideal school or classroom look like?
- Ideally it’s an active and engaging environment where students feels safe to collaborate, experiment and learn from their mistakes. All with access to top-notch technology, of course!

- I still have a lot to learn, but I would lead a conversation centered around the importance of computer science and the case for teaching students to code as early as possible, in order to help them develop important problem solving and critical thinking skills.
