While at OU I have been involved in the design of labs for Intro Biology for non majors, and I am working on several projects related to active learning with a professor on campus. We are presenting one of those projects at the ABLE conference this summer. I am interested in getting back into the high school classroom and pursuing more education in curriculum development.

What does your ideal school or classroom look like?

  • I believe that to learn science you need to do science. So my ideal classroom is one with flexibility to be creative with science experimentation and learning.

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?

  • I love concept mapping, I think it is a great tool that can be used on technology platforms or on paper. For example, I developed a strategy to have students map all of the concepts in a biology class, in a step wise fashion throughout a year, to result in one large map at the end of the year. This fall, we were able to see the students adopt concept maps as a learning tool and start to see continuity in classes from the first to last day.
