How are you involved in education?
I previously taught biology in high school and decided to go back to graduate school. Right now I am a graduate student in a Master’s program studying molecular genetics. While at OU I have been involved in the design of labs for Intro Biology for non majors, and I am working on several projects related to active learning with a professor on campus. We are presenting one of those projects at the ABLE conference this summer. I am interested in getting back into the high school classroom and pursuing more education in curriculum development.

If you were to lead a session at Edcamp, what would it be about?
I love concept mapping, I think it is a great tool that can be used on technology platforms or on paper. For example, I developed a strategy to have students map all of the concepts in a biology class, in a step wise fashion throughout a year, to result in one large map at the end of the year. This fall, we were able to see the students adopt concept maps as a learning tool and start to see continuity in classes from the first to last day.
